The Commonwealth Games Aquatic centre is a $42 Million complex built under a joint partnership between the Queensland Government and City of Gold Coast. It is due to open in 2017 and be ready to host the Commonwealth Games in 2018. Densi Crete helped to fast track the installation of the vinyl throughout the complex to enable the project to be delivered on time as scheduled.
How Densi Crete Helped
Densi Crete was used primarily as a moisture barrier on the fresh concrete to enable the installation of subsequent vinyl coverings. The concrete was initially moisture tested and came back with above Australian Standard results. Clint Martin from PKF needed a quick turnaround time so Densi Crete was used as it can accept floor coverings within 24 hours.
The reason why Densi Crete was chosen is because it penetrates up to 100mm into the substrate, creating a permanent waterproofing barrier that also has the added benefit of improving the integrity of the concrete.
Densi Crete only needs a single coat applied to the concrete for it to be completely effective, and penetrates into the concrete within one hour, saving this particular project an incredible amount of time.
Reasons why Densi Crete is the best choice for moisture proofing concrete:
- Densi Crete can be applied to almost any concrete product containing 10% Portland cement.
- It is easy to apply and can be sprayed on to existing concrete or concrete at time of pour.
- After applying Densi Crete the surface is foot trafficable after just 1 hour.
- Install floor coverings within 24 hours of application to exisitng concrete or within 14 days of application if used at time of pour.
- Densi Crete is more than 21% cheaper than other waterproofing membrane methods.
