Densi Crete Solves Concrete Moisture Issues for National Retailer

The Project: BCF

Client: DynaCoat Painters

Damp is the archenemy of concrete!

When you walk into a building that has damp flooring you can often smell it. Besides this, floor coverings and adhesives being used today are no longer based on petroleum products and can tend to lift causing safety and aesthetic problems. Not to mention the health issues related to mould and mildew.

This is exactly why architects, building contractors, and water proofers turn to DuraCore for an easy and effective solution that is kind to the environment.

DuraCore Concrete Protection Systems uses the latest technology to provide:

• A complete range of concrete protection products for concrete repair, moisture proofing, surface protection, and sealing.

• Innovative and technically advanced systems, that are effective and easy to apply.

• Products that are 100% environmentally friendly.

One such contractor that has been putting their trust in DuraCore is DynaCoat Painters (www.dynacoatpainters.com.au); an Australian family owned business that has been operating on Queensland’s Gold Coast since 1996. They pride themselves on professionalism, integrity and attention to detail, so they are naturally drawn to products that get the job done right.

DynaCoat Painters wanted to make sure there were no damp issues on their projects and has been collaborating with DuraCore since 2012, for large retail clients such as Supercheap Auto and BCF in both Australia and New Zealand.

For a recent project, the BCF at Taren Point with a store covering 1100m2; the site inspection revealed that the concrete slab had moisture issues and upon removal of the existing floor coverings an Australian Standards’ Moisture Test was completed.

The concrete substrate needed to conform to the Australian Standards guideline for moisture content prior to installing new impervious floor coverings. However, the project was on a very tight time schedule, as the store couldn’t remain closed for too long, so there was no time for the concrete to dry out naturally.

The experts at DuraCore proposed the use of Densi Crete to bring the concrete’s excess moisture to within the Australian Standard guidelines. Made of a 100% pure colloidal silica, for the protection of new or old concrete, Densi Crete has zero VOC and provides exceptional concrete waterproofing. The product is used to cure, waterproof, densify, purge oil, and to seal the concrete from any contamination, while also being used extensively in the polished concrete industry.

DynaCoat then proceeded to diamond grind the floor of the BCF store to remove any previous adhesives and contamination. Once this was complete, one spray coating of Densi Crete was applied to deeply penetrate into the matrix of the concrete to withstand a minimum of 35mtr of hydro-static pressure. Once applied to the floor, and left for 24 hours, the gel formation process is complete and excess moisture is purged from the concrete. Following a light diamond grind for a second time, the installation of the SureFloor epoxy flooring could begin.

For the purposes of the BCF store, Densi Crete provided permanent waterproofing of the concrete floor. Additionally, the product purged contamination and odours from the old concrete slab, and immediately halted contaminant ingress. The real win was that there was minimal site disruption – after just an hour people could get back in to do other work while the Densi Crete completed its process.

Densi Crete is a great solution for flooring in factories, retail environments, corporate buildings, and private residences. It significantly diminishes the permeability of the concrete, producing an effective internal permanent colloidal silicate barrier. Dust has an adverse effect on people, machinery and merchandise, which Densi Crete eliminates for new or old concrete. It is also non-toxic, zero VOC, non-flammable and environmentally safe.

As illustrated in the diagrams below, the untreated surface allows the penetration of salts, effluents and gases, is prone to dusting, and moisture, whereas the treated surface provides a solution to these areas.

Moisture Barrier

Micro or surface cracking, resulting from rapid surface drying or plastic shrinkage, will not affect the performance of Densi Crete. Please note however that Densi Crete is not a major crack repair system, nor does it claim to be – structural cracking should be referred to an engineer for a crack repair procedure.

Results:
Brendan Sievers, Director of DynaCoat Painters, has been using Densi Crete for projects over the past six years and was once again delighted with the outcome.

According to Brendan, Densi Crete “worked perfectly again on this project; removing the moisture and allowing the project to “get back on schedule with minimal delay or site disruption”.
